The focco are a race of aliens I have invented long ago and had been
polishing for years. Perhaps I was tired of all the xenophobia
that Hollywood promotes, but in any case I attempted to develop a scenario
in which humans would be able to coexist with an alien civilisation
to mutual benefit. This race was the result.
Focco originate from vicinity of the nearby star. They are humanoids
but not hominids; they are small (5 feet average), and have predatory
origins. They created an advanced but slowly developing civilisation that
was comparable to ours at the point of their first contact with Earth. That
civilisation is nearly a monoculture, a conglomeration of clanlike societies
known as Houses, that had consumed the more diverse pre-existing societies
some 8,000 years before contact. The culture is extremely personocentric,
and balanced, although not introverted. Focco and humans can communicate
well, and after contact had developed extensive realtions, including
cooperative colonisation of other worlds. Many focco lived on Earth, and
quite a few humans settled on their homeworld.
There are quite a few unfinished pencil sketches here. The
reason is my unwillingness to destroy the natural appeal of them by further
refining; this style does fit my graceful creatures well.

These illustrations were made for the dedicated Focco Per Se web
site (currently still in the works, despite significant progress). In
particular, there is the series of three pictures for the three major
sections of the site: The Creature, The Universe, The Achievement.

Even though focco are gymnophiles, they are not beyond adornment, nor
adequate protection, and have a distinct and fitting clothing style.
I put some illustrations from the tract on focco costume on display here,
until the whole thing can be published. The series was initiated in 1998
and heavily remade in 2000, with some major additions in 2002.
